ZNI Lucerne Cantonal Hospital
STRUCTURAL FRAMEWORK. The new Centre for Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine is coming into its own. From the outset, it was essential to ensure that the emergency access route remained operational throughout the construction phase. The four-storey building handles this with composure whilst simultaneously showcasing its structural framework. It does not overdo it, but instead conceals the structure behind a horizontal glass façade that reflects light subtly depending on the time of day, weather and lighting. Inside, flexibility was key – the different uses of each floor required very distinct floor plans, whilst also providing space for state-of-the-art, lean-optimised hospital technology, offering patients in difficult situations a clear overview and a view of the surroundings.
