PROTECTIVE FORCE. Certain things are particularly worthy of protection. These include traditions, buildings and data. Building W23 at Zurich Airport serves as a shell for such a task – a protective layer for energy and IT. Inside, it houses diesel generators and a data centre. Outside, pressure-impregnated laminated timber panels form a protective shield that changes over time. The building acts as a counterpoint to the neighbouring fire station, whose horizontal joint it incorporates.
