The new hospital building is conceived as a structure that forges a sense of identity within the healthcare sector, combining an urban presence with a scale consistently centred on people. Embedded within the landscape, the building develops in close harmony with nature, creating optimal conditions for recovery and well-being.
The volumetric staggering and textural variation mediate between the building and its surroundings, whilst generous outdoor spaces and carefully planned sightlines strengthen the connection to the riverfront. A clearly defined forecourt forms the central entrance feature and organises the various traffic flows efficiently and clearly.
The internal and external structure follows the principles of ‘Healing Architecture’: daylight, materiality and green spaces shape the atmosphere and promote mental and physical wellbeing. The open, layered construction allows for a variety of views and aids orientation within the building.
