Let’s put together our dream city home in Zurich. No holds barred. So: it should be centrally located, no more than 500 metres from the main railway station. Right on the Limmat, on the north bank, so we get the sun during the day. With large windows and a balcony – otherwise, what’s the point? A garden and plenty of greenery all around would be nice. And whilst we’re at it, we’d like something in that vintage style that urbanites are so keen on at the moment. Classic modernism. But not a copy, an original. A gem designed by a renowned architect, please.
You might be thinking: ‘You dreamer!’ You’re entitled to think that, but you’d be wrong – and not just grammatically. Recently, a property came up for sale that met all these criteria. Without exception. It was a flat in the Rotach Buildings by Haefeli Moser Steiger. The three architects are held in such high regard that, to protect their Kongresshaus, the city has opted against a prestigious new build. And to protect their university hospital, a whole neighbourhood is being planned around it.
